The Doobie Brothers

The Doobie Brothers are an American rock band, best known for hit singles like "Black Water". They were popular throughout the 1970s. The modern incarnation was formed in 1970 and 1971's The Doobie Brothers failed to chart. Their live shows had given them an energetic fanbase, primarly among the Hell's Angels of southern California. With the help of their fanbase, 1972's Toulouse Street was their breakthrough success and included "Jesus Is Just Alright" and "Listen to the Music". "Long Train Runnin'", "Black Water" and "China Grove" were among their biggest hits for the next few years. Their career peaked with the success of Minute by Minute which spent five weeks at the top of the charts and included the hit "What a Fool Believes". One Step Closer (1980) was a success, but did not match the blockbuster figures of Minute by Minute. By 1982, the Doobie Brothers announced their imminent break-up. They reunited and toured in 1987, breaking back into the Top Ten with "The Doctor" from Cycles, but the band was unable to continue their momentum. They have toured since and are a popular concert draw, though their recordings' success has been limited.
