National Basketball Association

(Redirected from NBA) NBA redirects here, as it's the most common usage of the abbreviation; for more uses, see NBA (disambiguation). The National Basketball Association of the USA, commonly known as the NBA, is the premier professional club basketball competition in North America. Most of the world's best players play in the NBA, and the overall standard of the competition is considerably higher than any other club competition. The NBA was founded in 1946 as the Basketball Association of America. It adopted the name National Basketball Association in the fall of 1949 after adding several teams from the rival National Basketball League. The NBA currently is devised in this format: Eastern Conference: Atlantic Division Boston Celtics Miami Heat New Jersey Nets New York Knicks Orlando Magic Philadelphia 76ers Washington Wizards Central Division Atlanta Hawks Chicago Bulls Cleveland Cavaliers Detroit Pistons Indiana Pacers Milwaukee Bucks New Orleans Hornets Toronto Raptors Western Conference: Midwest Division Dallas Mavericks Denver Nuggets Houston Rockets Memphis Grizzlies Minnesota Timberwolves San Antonio Spurs Utah Jazz Pacific Division Golden State Warriors (located in Oakland, California) Los Angeles Clippers Los Angeles Lakers Phoenix Suns Portland Trail Blazers Sacramento Kings Seattle SuperSonics Future teams Charlotte Bobcats 2004-05 On November 17, 2003 the NBA announced that the 2004-2005 season will be realigned as the following: Eastern Conference: Atlantic Division Boston Celtics New Jersey Nets New York Knicks Philadelphia 76ers Toronto Raptors Central Division Chicago Bulls Cleveland Cavaliers Detroit Pistons Indiana Pacers Milwaukee Bucks Southeast Division Atlanta Hawks Charlotte Bobcats Miami Heat Orlando Magic Washington Wizards Western Conference: Northwest Division Denver Nuggets Minnesota Timberwolves Portland Trail Blazers Utah Jazz Seattle SuperSonics Pacific Division Golden State Warriors (located in Oakland, California) Los Angeles Clippers Los Angeles Lakers Phoenix Suns Sacramento Kings Southwest Division Dallas Mavericks Houston Rockets Memphis Grizzlies New Orleans Hornets San Antonio Spurs Past Champions:
